City of Fallen Angels (Mortal Instruments)

City of Fallen Angels - Cassandra Clare My Rating: 3.0 After finishing City of Glass, I was very happy to read City of Fallen Angels, expecting tons of happy stuff after the happy ending in City of Glass. I was wrong. Before I read City of Fallen Angels, I heard that there was going to be three more books in The Mortal Instruments series and that they will focus mainly on Simon. Guess what? It doesn't. For the first half of the book, Jace is full of angst. He avoids Clary for no good reason, although he could't resisting making out with her several times. Jace constantly thinks that he's not good enough for her and that he's like Valentine because of the nightmares he's been having (involving him killing Clary). One major problem I had with the series was this: Didn't Jace just go over that he was probably like his father constantly in the previous two books? Can't he just be happy that he can finally date Clary and just move on? It was so annoying reading pages upon pages of Jace avoiding Clary and Clary being sad/angry because of it and then them making out and the whole cycle repeating over again. (Please excuse my run-on sentence for I think this is the best way to put it.) And then, when things are finally looking up towards the end, Jace decided to avoid Clary again. City of Fallen Angels took me about four days to read it. I usually read a book a day, with the exception of The Mortal Instruments series because the books are thick. A book from The Mortal Instruments series usually takes me two days to read. When I take about four days to read a single book, you know there's a big problem. There were plenty of times where I could have continued to read City of Fallen Angels, but I just wasn't that into it. Part of the reason why is there is no plot. Jace and Clary have relationship problems, Simon has relationship problems choosing between Isabelle and Maia, and Alec has relationship problems dealing with Magnus' past relationships and immortality. Add an extra fight with a Greater Demon at the end, and bam!, that's City of Fallen Angels. No wonder I took this long to finish the book. And that cliffhanger. Sorry, but it wasn't a cliffhanger. Hell, I didn't even get what happened and was too tired to reread the last two pages again. What was running through my mind was: YES! TWO MORE PAGES UNTIL THIS BOOK ENDS. Why did I give this book a rating of three point zero? Honestly, I don't know. Maybe it's because some parts are enjoyable, maybe it's because the cover is gorgeous, maybe it's because...I dunno. I thought about giving it a rating of two, but for some reason, I can't. So you, Cassandra Clare, better do better in your next book. City of Lost Souls better be better or I'll really regret my decision. ohdamnbooks: city of fallen angels
